Invicta Dynamos – 2 Haringey Whippets - 2
Due to illness and injury a smallish team drove through torrential rain to Gillingham for the first of our matches with Invicta, This was a critical match as Invicta are next up on the league tables. Both teams started positively and the Whippets were unlucky with some good attempts on Invictas goal however 5 minutes in, Invicta got the first goal. Haringey kept their heads, were passing well and matching up to some fairly physical play when 2 minutes before the end of the first period, goalie James Tipple took a bad fall after the second of two physical challenges, for which Invictas Aaron Connolly was given a match penalty. James Appleby stepped in to net mind, and a minute later Reon scored an unassisted goal with a powerful slapshot to even the score. Echoing the first period, 5 minutes in Invicta got their second point, and Krystof, assisted by Nathan and Joe got the equaliser 2 minutes later. Both sides kept the pressure up and the Haringey defenders and James Tipple back in goal made sure that Invictas efforts did not pay off. The Third period was tense and exciting as both teams tried their utmost to score the winning goal. Invicta, with the larger squad might have had more energy left, but the Whippets kept on hustling. The period was goalless ending the game as a 2-2 draw. Spirit of the match went to Finlay Carpenter This was a thrilling match to watch and team spirit was high with a great attitude on the bench. Keep up the good work Whippets!
