2nd February 2008 Swindon - 2 Haringey Whippets - 0 This was our first meeting with Swindon who are currently sitting 4 th in the table. After a run of defeats we were not expecting miracles and knew that, with the minimum number on the bench, it was up to the ones there to pull their weight. The game started well with the Whippets giving as good as they got. Swindon's play was very fast and skilful, but maybe because they had a number of 14s playing up - not as cohesive as expected. Half way through the first period Swindon got a one timer shot which ended in a goal but the Whippets kept their heads up and kept fighting Just before the break, Finlay was felled by a close range slapshot which put him out of the game for the second period. The Whippets got a bench penalty for arriving back late to the second period (what were they doing?), and Swindon got a powerplay goal. This was a tricky period in the game and gave the team plenty to be grateful to James Tipple for. The third period was goalless but with Haringey picking up their game, they always looked like they were in with a chance. An exciting and sportsmanlike game. All credit to the team for playing so hard and particularly to James who played outstandingly and the defence, Alex, Reon, Ethan and Florian for keeping Swindons lead to a minimum. Invicta Dynamos – 2 Haringey Whippets - 2
Due to illness and injury a smallish team drove through torrential rain to Gillingham for the first of our matches with Invicta, This was a critical match as Invicta are next up on the league tables. Both teams started positively and the Whippets were unlucky with some good attempts on Invictas goal however 5 minutes in, Invicta got the first goal. Haringey kept their heads, were passing well and matching up to some fairly physical play when 2 minutes before the end of the first period, goalie James Tipple took a bad fall after the second of two physical challenges, for which Invictas Aaron Connolly was given a match penalty. James Appleby stepped in to net mind, and a minute later Reon scored an unassisted goal with a powerful slapshot to even the score. Echoing the first period, 5 minutes in Invicta got their second point, and Krystof, assisted by Nathan and Joe got the equaliser 2 minutes later. Both sides kept the pressure up and the Haringey defenders and James Tipple back in goal made sure that Invictas efforts did not pay off. The Third period was tense and exciting as both teams tried their utmost to score the winning goal. Invicta, with the larger squad might have had more energy left, but the Whippets kept on hustling. The period was goalless ending the game as a 2-2 draw. Spirit of the match went to Finlay Carpenter This was a thrilling match to watch and team spirit was high with a great attitude on the bench. Keep up the good work Whippets!

Haringey Whippets - 0 Bracknell Stingers - 11

In glorious autumn sunshine the Whippets went to Bracknell, looking forward to some exciting hockey

From the first face off it seemed like the Whippets might be a close match for Bracknell , similarly paced and with play fairly equal at both ends of the rink.

However ten minutes into the game the Whippets incurred their first penalty allowing Bracknell to score a power play goal. Bracknell seizing the upper hand, mounted pressure on netminder James Appleby who was playing his first game for the U16s, and followed swiftly with another, and then another power play goal to close the first period at 3- 0.

In the second period the Whippets looked like they had lost their nerve and played defensively and with little conviction. Bracknell dictated the speed and when the Whippets got the puck there was rarely someone in place to pass to. Bracknell forged ahead with a further three goals.

In the third period Bracknell continued a merciless attack on the Haringey goal,

even pulling their own keeper off at times . The demotivated Whippets couldn't clear the puck away from their end and so the Stingers efforts were rewarded with a further 5 goals to give a final score or 11- 0

Man of the match went to Krystof Mincev and Spirit of the match to Joe Grathwohl

This was a sad result – we know the team are capable of far better hockey and look forward to a chance to prove this when we next meet Bracknell .

Haringey Whippets - 3 Cardiff U16s - 1
The match got off to a great start with the Whippets going one up in the opening seconds with a goal by Nathan assisted by Reon and Florian.

Play was fairly equally distributed around the rink with James stopping several good chances by Cardiff before being bypassed in the last 2 minutes of the first period.

A minute later Nathan re-established the lead from a pass by Krystof.

In the second period Cardiff came out strongly, but the game slowed and became more defensive, the Whippets being hampered by a couple of penalties. However at full strength Reon got the third goal from a cracking break away by Jay

The third period was goalless with both teams looking tired, neither side able to take advantage of the others penalty. Despite Cardiff pulling out all the stops in the last minute by bringing all players forward, James stepped up to the mark to prevent a final goal.

Man of the match went to James Tipple and Spirit of the match to Stephen Gayle.

Although not quite such a fast paced match as last week, the Whippets were delighted to get their first A league win under their belts.

6 October 2007 Haringey Whippets 0 Peterborough Phantoms U16s 3

This was the U16s' first game of the season and their first game in Division 1; not only that, their opponents were Peterborough Phantoms, long-time Division 1 veterans. The game started off at a fast pace, with the Phantoms incurring the first penalty early in the first period. They struck back hard, catching the Whippets off-guard and scoring the first goal of the game, short-handed. After this, the Whippets settled down; there was lots of furious play up and down the ice with Whippets goalie James Tipple called on to make some spectacular saves, keeping the team in touch with their opponents. Number 35, Finlay Carpenter, had the best chance for the Whippets but his strong shot was stopped by the Peterborough goalie. The second period was almost scoreless, with both teams becoming increasingly frustrated by not being able to penetrate the goal and penalties therefore on the increase. Eventually Peterborough scored, however, bring their total to two. The third period saw the Whippets kept continually at bay by a strong Peterborough defense, with attempts on goal by Reon Burns, Krystof Mincev and J Cleland all successfully parried. Peterborough made one final onslaught in the last minute and just managed to get the puck in on the buzzer despite heroic efforts by the Haringey forwards to stop the shot. Man of the Match was awarded to goalie James Tipple and Spirit of the Game awarded to newcomer D-man Jack Cookson. This was a tough first match but the Whippets certainly proved themselves to be up for the challenge of Division 1, and are looking forward to their next encounter, against Cardiff on the 13th.
